Lincoln Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year
Lincoln Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year
Cypress Springs Elementary
Tuesday, January 28, 2020

This year’s elementary honoree opens her application by noting that she achieves excellence at her school by guiding students of all backgrounds and abilities to be successful.  She then adds that her goal is to eliminate academic and opportunity gaps by meeting students on their level in small groups, personalizing their learning, working on reading fluency, being intentional in partnerships and groupings, and then rewarding success.  Consistently collaborating with peers on campus and throughout the district, she has become a true education champion and leader.  She states that demonstrating leadership at all times is important, demonstrating that both students and colleagues can come to you at any time.  She has diligently strived to encourage her students to reach their full potential, something they have demonstrated as her Value-Added Measurement data has increased each year and for the past two years has been 96% or better.  She promotes the idea of school being a learning community and leads professional development to ensure that all teachers are equipped with the necessary skills and/or strategies to promote academic excellence.  Another reference adds that despite her numerous accolades and leadership roles, she remains one of the most humble people you could ever meet and is among the most compassionate people on the planet.   Ladies and gentlemen, what a what privilege to present to you our Elementary Teacher of the Year, Shavonda Washington from Cypress Springs Elementary School.
